What preparations need to be made before starting the diesel generator set?
In order to ensure that the diesel generator set can start and operate safely, smoothly and efficiently, it is crucial to carry out comprehensive preparations before starting. The following is a detailed preparation workflow from eight aspects: environment and safety, oil level and liquid level, electrical system, mechanical components, systems, insulation resistance detection, preheating preparation, and tool and spare parts preparation.
1.Environmental and safety inspection: Make sure that the generator set is placed in a dry and well-ventilated place without flammable and explosive items, and that there is enough space around it to facilitate operation and maintenance. Check whether the fire protection equipment is complete and effective, and the escape routes are clear and unobstructed. At the same time, confirm that no one is staying around the crew, especially children and unrelated persons.
2.Oil level and liquid level inspection: Check the diesel oil level in the tank to ensure it is not lower than the minimum mark line. It is recommended to keep it between two-thirds and three-quarters of the oil meter. Check the coolant level in the cooling system water tank or radiator to make sure it is within the specified range. Use pure water or the coolant recommended by the manufacturer. Check the engine oil level through the oil dipstick, making sure it is between the upper and lower marks.
3.Electrical system inspection: Check that the battery has sufficient power, the connections are firm, and there is no corrosion. If necessary, recharge or replace the battery. Check that all cables and connections are intact and not damaged, aged or loose to ensure correct and reliable connections. Check whether all indicators, switches, buttons, etc. on the control panel are functioning properly and there are no abnormal displays.
4.Mechanical component inspection: Check whether the fasteners of the engine and accessories are firm, such as bolts, nuts, etc. Check that the fan belt, generator belt and other transmission devices have moderate tightness and no wear or breakage. Check that the exhaust pipe is firmly connected and has no leaks to ensure smooth exhaust flow.
5.System inspection: Check the cleanliness of the fuel filter and replace it if necessary. Make sure the fuel pump is working properly and there are no leaks in the fuel supply pipeline. Make sure the oil filter is clean and the oil pump and lubrication lines are not clogged or leaking. Check that the water pump is working properly, that there are no leaks in the water pipes and radiator, and that the fan rotates flexibly.
6.Insulation resistance testing: Use an insulation resistance tester to test the insulation resistance of generator windings, control cables, etc. to ensure compliance with safety standards.
7.Preheating and preparation: In cold environments, the engine should be preheated before starting, such as using a glow plug or an external heat source, to reduce cold start wear. Make sure all parts of the engine are fully lubricated, and if necessary, manually crank it several times to check flexibility.
8.Preparation of tools and spare parts: Prepare necessary maintenance tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, multimeters, insulating gloves, etc., in case of emergency. According to the unit maintenance manual, prepare some common spare parts, such as air filter element, fuel filter, oil filter, etc., for quick replacement in an emergency.
After completing all the above preparations, the diesel generator set can be started according to the operating procedures. Note that safety operating procedures should be strictly followed throughout the entire process to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
